“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’”
- How is Jesus’ instruction in verse 38 different from what you might expect?
- Have you ever felt a burden for, or a strong desire to help someone you couldn't help? How did that feel? What did you do?
- Jesus identifies this incredibly urgent need, and then instructs His disciples to pray. How do you react when something urgent comes up?
- How does this passage change the way we view prayer?
You may feel that there is little you can do for the Kingdom of God. You may have a medical or personal obstacle keeping you from the work God is burdening your heart for. Jesus makes clear that when urgent and important needs arise, prayer is our most important tool. Make a prayer list, or journal, of things you can pray for. Make a habit of praying for these things and keeping up with the situations. You will find prayer is far more powerful than you imagined.
Pray specifically that God would raise up missionaries and pastors where there are few. Pray God would send people to the lost. Ask God to raise them up even out of First Baptist of Palmetto and send them to unreached and difficult places for the sake of the Gospel.
