“Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
- Why was Paul able to rejoice in his affliction?
- Paul knew Christ would be honored in his body “whether by life or by death.” How does this hope allow us to make the hard decision to do the right thing despite possible consequences?
- In what way is death “gain” for a Christian?
Memorize Verse 21:
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Ask God for forgiveness where you have chosen to take the easy way out in your life. Ask God to help you overcome fear by the hope that comes only through Christ. Thank God that you may rejoice even in your afflictions, even in death, because of the hope you have in Jesus.
