By Kenny Tibbetts
And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Mark 2: 15-17
- What did the Pharisees expect Jesus to be like?
- Can you find yourself in this story? Are you sitting with Jesus at the table? Are you scoffing with the Pharisees?
- How did the Pharisees react when Jesus didn’t meet their expectations?
- How do we react when Jesus doesn’t do what we want Him to do?
Invite a friend or coworker to church this weekend to hear about how Jesus is good news for their life.
Ask Jesus to make you more like Him. Thank Jesus for coming for you while you were yet a sinner. Pray for our church as we seek to reach out to the lost like Jesus did.
