In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:6-8
- In verse 6 David struggles with the emptiness of his sacrificial offering. Have you ever felt what you were giving to God wasn’t enough?
- In verse 8 David describes something better than sacrificial offering. What would it look like in your life to “delight to do” God’s will?
- What area of your life are you tolerating disobedience to God?
Read the remainder of Psalm 40 and consider the only appropriate response to God’s deliverance is to give Him our whole lives, not a simple sacrifice.
Pray for total restoration. Pray God would open your eyes to those areas of disobedience to which you have been blind. Pray for a thorough and complete turn toward obedience in response to what Jesus has done for you.
